Can we bring back Naughty Harry?
The new woke version is all very good, but part of us laments the loss of the Royal Family’s bad boy.
We miss the old Harry, you know, like the one who posed for this iconic pic with Kanye and P. Diddy after organising the Concert For Diana in 2007.
And we’re not alone - according to a new survey, poor Harry’s approval rating has plummeted since he and Meghan made their Megxit.
The YouGov survey released on Wednesday, shows Harry’s positive percentage rating plunged 19 points since March, leaving him with a score of one, teetering on the edge of the Royal Pit of Doom, currently inhabited by Meghan, who has an ignominious minus 26 tally and Andrew with a minus 73 rating.
If it’s any consolation to Harry, Camilla also only scores one, which is harsh, as she’s been valiantly plodding through the pandemic doing her duty, including this week, visiting London’s Paddington Station and testing out Covid sniffer dogs of all things. What else does the woman need to do?
This week, Kerry puts the case forward for the return of our favourite court jester in her column for The Sunday Telegraph, here.
And while we’re sure he’s not losing any sleep over the poll, it must rankle a little that William and Catherine are enjoying continued popularity, rating 65 and 62 respectively. Come on Harry, let’s see your cheeky side again, because we’re all in need of a laugh right now.
Let’s play Royal Baby Bingo
Still on Meghan and Harry, the other big news this week is the possibility the pair are expecting baby number two. We really hope so, not least because Kerry called it a few weeks ago in her piece for The Sunday Telegraph and we want to win Full House in our game of Royal Baby Bingo.
Back in September, the internet was ablaze with speculation Meghan, Catherine, Beatrice and Eugenie might all be expecting. And while it’s really hard and slightly inappropriate to speculate if someone is pregnant over Zoom, many noted Meghan looked different in her recent Time interview.
This week her legal team delayed the hearing of her court case against the Mail on Sunday until October 2021. Read more here.
The OMG secrets of The Crown
Let’s face it, this year it’s way more exciting than Christmas. We’re counting down the days until November 15 when Season 4 of The Crown drops on Netflix and saves us from the dumpster fire that is 2020.
Maria is currently on her 47th viewing of the trailer. She fell down a regal rabbit hole and returned with these crown jewels of facts from the making of the fourth season. With Diana and Margaret Thatcher joining the cast, hold on to your tiaras…
On-set romance: Gillian Anderson, who plays Margaret Thatcher, is in a relationship with The Crown’s creator Peter Morgan, but they don’t live under the same roof. “My partner and I don’t live together,” the Sex Education star told The Sunday Times. “If we did, that would be the end of us.” Peter has his own royal connections - his ex-wife Lila Schwarzenberg was born Princess Anna Carolina zu Schwarzenberg.
Spain doubles up for Australia: Remember Charles and Diana’s first smash-hit tour of Australia in 1983? Much of those scenes were shot in Spain – more’s the pity for Oz. Josh O’ Connor, who plays Prince Charles, said, “The Australian episode sees the most emotionally tumultuous moments in the series, really.”
Claire Foy makes a comeback: Snapped in costume filming a scene for this new season, we’re hoping this means Young Queenie makes a cameo.
Diana loved sending filthy cards: During her research for the role, Emma Corrin was told by a close friend of Diana’s that the princess would pop out to a local shop and buy saucy cards for all her friends. “He would say to her, ‘Please tell me you’re not going into shops and buying these’, but she was like, ‘Oh yeah, there’s a little shop down the road from me, so I go in’,” she said.
The stories behind Diana’s most famous outfits
The Crown will also give us a glimpse of Diana’s wardrobe again - going from frumpy nursery nurse to one of the most stylish women on the planet. Diana was a fashion phenomenon: From the Travolta to the Revenge Dress, whatever she wore, she hit the headlines and changed the fortune of the designer behind it. Kerry looked back at eight of her most iconic outfits, for The Sunday Telegraph, read here.
One of our favourites is Blinky – the story of her funny old koala jumper, above, given as a wedding gift to the princess, that shot Aussie designer Jenny Kee to fame and fortune and is helping save bushfire-affected koalas some 40 years later.
Camilla’s hard-working maskdrobe
The Duchess of Cornwall has been working hard this week and totally rocking it, mask-wise. In July Camilla was the first royal to step out in public wearing a £38 Liberty peacock print by Fiona Clare. At Paddington on Tuesday, her floral face covering was apparently a gift from a member of the public, which she co-ordinated with her Mr Roy tailored suit. Prince Charles obviously got the signature mask memo when he accompanied Camilla to the Bank of England on Wednesday - he donned a mask by Turquoise Mountain, a charity he set up in 2006. It is working with mask-making textile artisans in Myanmar. Check out their website here, as we reckon their £6.50 masks are perfect Christmas presents.
