We were touched to see the Princess of Wales back at work on Wednesday, embracing fellow cancer sufferer Liz Hatton, at Windsor Castle.
The 16-year-old has a rare form of cancer and the budding photographer had been invited to take photos at a Windsor Castle investiture as part of her bucket list to take as many photos as possible in her time left. Liz’s family travelled from Harrogate to see the investiture and support their daughter, after being invited by Prince William. He heard about Liz’s mission through his London Air Ambulance Charity work (see below).
“A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both,” William and Catherine posted on Instagram. “Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. W&C.”
Liz was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumour and posted her wish-list to photograph as many different events as possible, in her remaining time, on X. You can see some of her work here. We send the brave young woman all the love in the world.
The heir and hair apparents team up
It was a double-beard day when Prince William teamed up with David Beckham on Tuesday, at a London Air Ambulance Charity fundraiser. “As soon as I was asked to be involved by Prince William … I was very honoured, in all honesty,” the ex-England player and famous royalist said in a video on Instagram. “I was very proud to be invited to be part of (this)”.
“Thanks to an incredible fundraising effort to raise £16 million to purchase two new H135 helicopters, LAA medical teams can continue reaching patients when every second counts,” posted Prince William.
Sophie to read a bedtime story
How good is this – Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, has signed up to read a CBeebies bedtime story for World Sight Day. Sophie will read Specs for Rex by Yasmeen Ismail, a story about a young lion who embraces his new glasses. The episode will run on Thursday October 10. “Millions of us need glasses to see the world clearly. World Sight Day is a reminder to all of us to take care of our eyes, whether we need glasses or not,” she said.
Sophie follows Catherine, Princess of Wales, who was the first royal to read a bedtime story, when she read The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark for Children’s Mental Health Week in 2022.
Beatrice baby news
It’s been a good news week for the Royal Family, which is the kind of newsletter we like to write. We were delighted to receive the announcement from the Palace on Tuesday saying there’s another royal baby on the way - Princess Beatrice is expecting her second child with husband Edoardo. “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting their second child together in early spring; a sibling for Wolfie, aged eight, and Sienna, aged three,” the statement said. “His Majesty has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
