Is Kate hinting at another baby?
The Duchess of Cambridge revealed she’s broody on her trip to Denmark
Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge made her visit to Denmark this week look like child’s play as she sped down a slide at the Lego Foundation PlayLab in Copenhagen.
She showed what a good sport she was as she took the slide instead of the stairs and whizzed out of the bottom at speed, with her arms in the air. She said, “In the spirit of where I am, I had to do it.”
Catherine, 40, looked splendid in her trusty red Zara blazer, £59.99, wide-leg trousers and Aspinal of London Midi Mayfair bag, £595.
But we were interested in her comment to parents at the Children’s Museum, when she admitted she is broody and Prince William worries when she works with young children, because she will want another one. “William always worries about me meeting under one-year-olds,” she said. “I come home saying, ‘Let’s have another one’.”
The last time the Duchess talked about babies, she announced she was pregnant afterwards, with Prince Louis. While on tour of Poland in July 2017, Catherine was given a toy for newborns and joked to William, “We’ll just have to have more babies!” They announced they were expecting their third child – Prince Louis - that September.
Catherine was in Copenhagen on a two-day working visit, where she met Queen Margrethe II and Crown Princess Mary. Catherine and Mary visited a women’s shelter, where the Duchess commented even very young children can be damaged if their parents’ relationship is abusive. “Children notice,” she said. “The older they are, the more they can articulate and explain how they feel. Children feel relationships.”
She also visited a forest school and and got stuck in chopping logs.
The Queen continues to fight Covid
Meanwhile, our thoughts are with the Queen who recovers from Covid at home in Windsor. Despite conducting her meeting with PM Boris Johnson on Wednesday by phone – there was clearly much to discuss this week – she cancelled two virtual engagements on Thursday.
The Queen, 95, tested positive for the virus on Sunday and the palace says she has “mild, cold-like symptoms.” She cancelled two earlier virtual meetings on Tuesday, but is continuing with “light duties”. This Wednesday, the Queen has cancelled a diplomatic event at Windsor Castle, but is scheduled to attend The Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on March 14.
We wish Her Majesty a speedy recovery.
It’s a Commonwealth charm offensive
Members of the Royal Family are about to head around the Commonwealth to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
William and Catherine are going on a trip to Jamaica, the Bahamas and Belize from March 19 – 26 and the following month, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, will continue the Caribbean tour, visiting Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, and St Vincent. Following Barbados becoming a republic and removing the Queen as head of state, it’s thought the Royal Family is keen to ensure other countries in the region don’t follow suit.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will visit Ireland in March and Princess Anne will go to Papua New Guinea and Australia – where she has been confirmed to open the Royal Easter Show in Sydney in April.
One loves The One Show
From Boyzone to Royal Zone - it’s certainly the best gig Ronan Keating has had. On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace let the BBC’s The One Show broadcast from the Queen’s blue drawing room, to mark the start of the 100-day countdown to the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
On it, they confirmed the ballot for the Platinum Party at the Palace is now open. Some 10,000 tickets for the June 4 concert will be given out. It closes on March 23. And Gyles Brandreth talked about how the Royal Voluntary Service will be awarding Platinum Champions from the community - details will be revealed here.
“They are looking for people who have made a difference in their communities, particularly those who have done it over a period of time,” he said.
Portrait of a new Queen
On February 26, 70 years ago, the young Queen posed for her first official portraits with photographer Dorothy Wilding. A total of 59 stunning photographs were taken by Wilding and appeared on stamps until 1971, as well as official portraits. At the 2022 Summer Opening of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, 24 of these images will be on display, alongside the Queen’s jewellery she wore.
