Kate says thanks and shares good news
The Princess of Wales has confirmed she’s “in remission” from cancer
It’s the news Catherine, her family, and the world, has been waiting for. On Tuesday, the Princess of Wales visited the Royal Marsden Hospital, in London, where it was confirmed she had received cancer treatment.
She thanked medical staff for their “care, support and compassion”, saying they “couldn’t have asked for more” and praising the exceptional care she received. She said they had “quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.” In a moving message on Instagram, Catherine wrote, “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to the Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year. She also confirmed she was now in remission.
“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support,” she wrote.
Announcing her new role as patron of the Royal Marsden, alongside Prince William, she said her hope was, “by supporting ground-breaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family well-being, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.”
This highly-personal visit shows Catherine’s new purpose, say royal reporters. Looking wonderful, as always, in a burgundy ensemble of Blazé Milano coat, skirt by Edeline Lee and cashmere jumper by Kiltane, the princess was filmed meeting staff and embracing patients. We wish her – and all those currently coping with cancer – the very best.
William buys a round
Last week we wrote about how it’s going to be a year of love for Wills and Kate, with a new focus on causes that resonate with them and this played out with their first engagements. As well as joining his wife as patron of the Royal Marsden, Prince William was announced as patron of the College of Paramedics. “Paramedics and those in the emergency services are adaptable, multiskilled and crucially, know how to work under pressure. It’s been a privilege to spend time today with first responders whose work saves lives day in, day out,” he wrote on social media, after attending a conference in Birminham, on Wednesday.
Afterwards, he met a group of Aston Villa fans in Wetherspoons, for a beer and chat about football. Steve Jones, 56, told the Daily Mail, “He was fantastic. I was quite amazed about how engaged he was with the club, his interest. He’s not a fair-weather fan. He really loves the club with a passion.” Don’t you just love that!
Harry & Meghan have had better weeks
It’s five years since the couple took their leave from the UK, and the portmanteau noun, Megxit, was born, forever listed in dictionaries. This week, the latest edition of Vanity Fair, the high profile US magazine, devoted their cover and 8,000 words on how this is panning out.
Not so great, according to their claims. Its investigation portrays Meghan as a ruthless boss, who treats those failing to impress her with contempt, and “bullied” her podcast staff so much that they needed “long-term therapy” or took extended breaks from work.
So, what should we make of these claims and so many more in the VF piece? Read the article here and tell us what you think in the comments section below.
It’s not been a great week at all for the pair. Branded ‘disaster tourists’ after their visit to Pasadena meeting survivors of the LA wildfires , With Love, Meghan, has been delayed by Netflix until March 4 because of the devastating fires ripping though LA.
Happy 60th, Sophie!
Doesn’t the Duchess look wonderful! Ahead of her big birthday tomorrow, this new portrait has been released by Buckingham Palace. Looking chic, assured and elegant, it was taken at Sophie and Edward’s Bagshot Park home by photographer Christina Ebenezer.
Alongside a series of three pictures posted on The Royal Family Instagram, the caption stated: “Her Royal Highness has a renewed sense of excitement and commitment to her work around gender equality and looks forward to further embracing and championing this issue in the years to come.”
Stay in the King’s holiday home
January is a peak time to book a relaxing break, so beat the rush and holiday (exactly) like a king, King Charles, to be precise. His former Welsh holiday home, called Llwynywermod, on the outskirts of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (formally known as the Brecon Beacons), has a new tenant, Arusha art gallery, which will be hosting plant healing retreats aiming to “inspire our spiritual relationship” with nature.
