Prince Louis turns five!
He’s fun, fabulous and very feisty – here are our five favourite moments of little Louis
Happy birthday to Prince Louis who turns five today, April 23.
Louis Arthur Charles was born April 23, 2018, like his siblings, in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, London. The third child to the Prince and Princess of Wales, he is fourth in line to the throne and whatever his future role will be, for now, it seems his job is chief entertainer. Here are our five favourite moments of the little prince…
1. Living it large at the Platinum Jubilee, June 2022
The four-year-old stole the show at the Jubilee, last June. He sat front row with his family to watch the (rather lengthy) Pageant and clearly it tested his patience. He slapped his hands over his eyes, puffed out his cheeks in boredom and threw a cushion around. When mum Catherine ticked him off, he blew a giant raspberry at her, in front of the world’s cameras. At one point, he sat on Dad William’s lap, before bouncing over to Grandpa Charles. It was more entertaining than the parade.
2. Shrieking at Trooping the Colour, June 2022
Louis had us in stitches when he appeared at the Trooping the Colour last June, alongside the Queen. He chatted to his great-grandmother, before pointing and waving at the jets, then screaming and clapping his hands over his ears at the noise, as the rest of the family giggled. It would be the Queen’s last Trooping the Colour, so it’s even more poignant it was one of the most fun.
3. First day of school, September 2022
Starting school for the first time is daunting enough, let alone having to do it in front of cameras. Louis was very brave when he turned up for his first day at Lambrook School near Windsor, last September. Pictured alongside George and Charlotte, the four-year-old was the picture of determination in his shorts, shirt and smart school shoes. William was snapped stroking his hair, tenderly.
4. Pinching Grandpa Charles’ nose, November 2018
To mark Charles’ 70th birthday in 2018, he had a series of family portraits taken with all his grand-children and the-then newlywed Harry and pregnant Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. The photos showed a loving side to the doting grandpa, with one shot of him laughing and cuddling Louis and another where Louis leaned over and grabbed his nose. One of the photos has been included in the Coronation souvenir program.
5. Getting a kiss from sis, May 2018
Louis’ first official photos are also his sweetest. Taken by mum Catherine on sister Charlotte’s third birthday on May 2, 2018, a sleeping newborn Louis is cradled by his big sister, who tenderly gives his forehead a kiss. Catherine previously snapped a similar picture of George kissing a newborn Charlotte.
Kate and Wills get stuck in in Birmingham
The Prince and Princess of Wales rolled their sleeves up and got stuck in, on their trip to Birmingham on Thursday. The duo started the day with a visit to renowned Indian restaurant The Indian Streatery and met the team of female chefs. William even took a booking on the phone. “The Sharma Family don’t just bring authentic Indian street food to the city but do so much in the community too, including their all female chef team training many better cooks than us…!” they wrote on Instagram.
They then hosted local business owners from Birmingham’s creative arts sector at The Rectory, overlooking the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter and even had a game of darts. It was fitting then, that Catherine looked resplendent in her jewel-toned Karen Millen trench-dress, £180, which, of course instantly sold out.
And happy anniversary to the pair, who celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary on Saturday.
Harry speaks German, like his dad
The Duke of Sussex starred in a video shown to Invictus Games supporters and organisers in Berlin this week. Prince Harry started by saying, “Guten Abend, meine Damen und Herren” during his appearance on Tuesday, marking 150 days until the Games kick off in Düsseldorf on 9 September 2023. As patron and founder of the Games, this was Harry’s first event since confirming he will be at the Coronation.
Although Harry managed a salutation in German, he’s got a long way to go to match his dad’s level. King Charles spoke German effortlessly during last month’s triumphant state visit to Germany. He was also the first British monarch to give a speech (again, mainly in German) to the Bundestag, charming parliamentarians for almost 25 minutes with his language skills. Wunderbar Charles and Harry!
Tuck into Coronation Quiche
Chosen personally by Charles and Camilla, the Coronation Quiche recipe, featuring spinach, broad beans and tarragon, has been shared online so everyone can make it for the upcoming Coronation Big Lunch taking place over the 6-8 May long weekend.
On Tuesday, Prince Edward took the royal quiche, baked in the Buckingham Palace kitchen, to a Westminster Abbey Coronation Big Lunch event attended by Great British Bake-Off judge Dame Prue Leith. Her verdict? “Absolutely delicious. There was no soggy bottom, the custard was not overcooked and dry, and the balance of tarragon was perfect - a really good quiche,” she declared, continuing: “Quiche is universal. Even cold, if the ingredients are right and the pastry is nice and buttery, it will taste great.”
Surrounded by love right to the end
The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a touching tribute in honour of the late Queen’s 97th birthday on Friday, by releasing this private photo of Her Majesty with some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Taken by Catherine at Balmoral last August, poignantly, weeks before our much-loved monarch passed away at her beloved Highland home.
