The Cambridges go in Cruise control
William and Kate once again own the red carpet at the Top Gun premiere
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were all glamour on Thursday, when they walked the red carpet with Tom Cruise for the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
Having gone for gold at the James Bond premiere last September, this time Catherine opted for a simple black and white column-dress by Roland Mouret and in The Royal List’s opinion, totally owned the red carpet.
She teamed the dress with an Alexander McQueen clutch bag, Prada shoes and Robinson Pelham diamond star earrings.
The uber-glamorous duchess was dazzling as she accepted the arm of the action star. William also dressed for the occasion in a midnight-blue Alexander McQueen velvet dinner jacket and velvet slippers by Crockett & Jones with F-18 fighter jets embroidered on them, in a nod to the film.
The couple attended the event in support of The Film and TV Charity, which helps those who work behind the scenes of the UK film, TV and cinema industry. William is also patron of BAFTA. At the gala in London’s Leicester Square, they met co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Miles Teller.
Tom, 59, who also took part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Windsor last weekend, said he and William have lots in common. “We both love England and we’re both aviators, we both love flying.”
And while there has been some confusion as to why the A-lister has been so central to royal events lately, the official explanation is he is a fan of the Royal Family. The Royal List cheekily wondered if he was looking for another job, but then, the Windsors have one Maverick already…
The Queen is just the ticket
The Queen brought the sunshine with her on Tuesday, as she opened the new Elizabeth Line, clad in bright yellow.
Named in honour of Her Majesty, the Queen was shown how to top up her Oyster Card at a ticket machine in Paddington as, accompanied by Prince Edward, she unveiled a plaque for the Crossrail project and met station staff and drivers.
It’s such a delight to see the Queen out and about and we hope she will be able to attend the Chelsea Flower Show next week.
The 96-year-old monarch missed last year’s event as it was moved to September because of the pandemic and she was at Balmoral. We hope her mobility issues allow her to attend. The Palace says a final decision will be made on Monday.
At last: the secrets of Meghan’s healthy hair
Why are we so obsessed with Meghan Markle’s hair? That was the take-away from last weekend’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Forget the worthy winners Ukraine and success of Sam Ryder, the one thing we’re all, OK, Kerry, is still thinking about, is Serbia’s song.
For those who didn’t tune in to the most sequinned song contest on the planet (if not, what could have possibly superseded your schedule?) Serbia’s entry Konstrakta, was a song in which singer Ana Duric warbled, “I wonder what’s the secret behind Meghan Markle’s healthy hair… I think that deep hydration is what it is.”
So Kerry took the challenge for her column for The Sunday Telegraph this week (read it here) and can bring you the answer to Meghan – and Catherine’s - hair secrets:
Meghan: Luckily for us, before she was royal for a minute, Meghan shared her haircare routine on her former lifestyle website The Tig, saying she uses Kerastase shampoo and conditioner. It’s pricey, but promises restorative results. We have already bulk-bought. She also said she uses Wella Professionals’ Oil Reflections Luminous Oil and one of her stylists, Lydia Sellers, shared the titbit that the duchess likes Kevin Murphy Smooth Again frizz-reducing cream.
Catherine: Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge’s glossy locks are also attributed to Kerastase, which is a coincidence and shame, because the pair could have bonded over luxury shampoo – instead of fighting over tights, they could have conversed about whether a deep-conditioning treatment is worth it. Catherine is also said to favour Kiehl’s Crème with Silk Groom and Charles Worthington’s Volume and Bounce Body Booster, which sounds like something we could give with a wider application….
The royals ‘take in’ refugees
During their three-day tour of Canada this week, Charles and Camilla were told of the ‘profound gratitude’ of Ukrainians for the Royal Family’s support. And it seems the family’s generosity towards war-torn Ukraine goes much further than making charity donations and speaking out publicly against the Russian invasion.
According to the Express, certain unidentified royals are believed to be providing accommodation for some of the 54,000 people seeking refuge in the UK. A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: “We are assisting in a number of ways but will not be commenting further.”
In Ottawa last Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall visited a Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Ottawa, where they heard prayers and thanks specifically to the Royal Family. The couple also met with refugees. Camilla told one young mum and her two sons: “We are so behind you. We do worry about you so much.”
Post haste and top that!
We’re absolutely loving the latest trend of woolly postbox toppers appearing up and down the UK to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Crocheters are ‘yarnbombing’ Britain’s postboxes with amazing designs from bejewelled crowns to miniature queens and corgis and so much more. Maria even spotted a Pikachu atop her local postbox. Reckon you can top that? Please share your spots with us.
